The Variegated Schefflera (Schefflera arboricola), commonly known as the Umbrella Plant, is native to Taiwan and Hainan and is adored for its glossy, palmate leaves with creamy yellow variegation. Its name comes from the way its leaves fan out like the spokes of an umbrella.

When styled as a Kokedama, this plant takes on a bonsai-like aesthetic, offering a natural, sculptural quality that feels both modern and serene. Its growth can be pruned for a fuller look or allowed to develop naturally for a more airy, artistic shape.

    • Using a Dish: If displayed on a dish, pour water into the dish and let the moss ball absorb moisture from the bottom, then remove excess water after 30 minutes.

  3. Humidity: Enjoys moderate humidity but adapts well to average indoor conditions.

  4. Temperature: Keep in a warm location; avoid cold drafts.

  5. Pruning: Trim to maintain shape and enhance its bonsai-like appearance.
