In Keepsakes, players build a line of memories, aiming to collect and manage these memories to earn the most Keepsakes, which represent their score. Each player starts with two Keepsakes and can gain or lose more by completing challenges and accurately reciting their line of memories, represented by various face-up and face-down cards.

Players take turns drawing a new memory card, adding it to their line, defining the memory, and reciting the entire sequence in order, starting with the first card played. Other players can challenge the recitation, potentially leading to Keepsake exchanges based on accuracy.

Each memory card has unique requirements, such as recalling personal information, describing something visible, or stating personal preferences. Some cards introduce tasks that complicate turns or offer challenges to boost Keepsake collection. Additionally, certain cards may reorder the memory line or turn face-down, forcing players to adapt or risk losing Keepsakes.

The game ends when a player has no Keepsakes left or the memory deck is depleted. The player with the most Keepsakes wins, though ties are allowed. Alternatively, players can choose to play cooperatively, working together to collect the most Keepsakes as a group.
