The False Leopard Wrasse is a vibrant and peaceful reef fish, prized for its intricate pattern of orange, blue, and black spots that resemble a miniature leopard. Graceful and constantly active, this wrasse adds both color and movement to reef aquariums while naturally helping control small invertebrate pests.
OriginNative to the Western Pacific, including Indonesia and the Philippines, Macropharyngodon ornatus inhabits coral rubble zones and sandy slopes where it searches for tiny crustaceans and worms.
FeedingA carnivore that thrives on frozen mysis, brine shrimp, chopped seafood, and high-quality marine pellets. Feed 2–3 times daily. A mature tank with live rock provides additional microfauna for natural grazing.
Tank MatesPeaceful and reef-safe with most species. Ideal tank mates include gobies, anthias, fairy wrasses, and tangs. Avoid aggressive or dominant fish that may outcompete it for food.
AggressionExtremely peaceful. Rarely shows territorial behavior and enjoys a calm aquarium with plenty of live rock and a sandy substrate for burrowing.
