EDITOR'S NOTE

Welcome, friends:

Thank you for your enthusiasm for flower gardening and for your interest in this book! Our intent in curating this collection is to provide guidance, inspiration, and entertainment along with timesaving tips, practical advice, and ideas to spark your imagination.

We had a range of folks in mind when developing the content: novice gardeners with germinating curiosity, budding growers who want to add color and variety to their yard or containers, and seasoned horticulturists whose cutting beds are the envy of the neighborhood.

Here you will all find help and solutions for planning and preparing pots and plots; choosing and maintaining plants—natives and non-; and enjoying the endless benefits of flowering plants and shrubs, from spectacular fresh or dried blooms to beneficial pollinators (calling all butterflies and hummingbirds!) to the beauty of birds seeking shelter and sustenance and bees spreading pollen and collecting nectar.

Dozens of plants are named on these pages, and 32 are profiled with specific details, such as their reputation in the plant world, tips on how to start them successfully and care for them to maturity (while thwarting pests and diseases!), and recommended varieties. For many, we also include fascinating facts about them in folklore and/or history.

Some plants in which you have an interest may not be included; in consultation with experienced gardeners, we chose these 32 because they are popular and common to most areas of the United States and/or Canada and have generated a great number of questions by visitors to Almanac.com. You’ll find many more flowering plants, with suggestions on how to use them, in the “Inspiration” section of this book.

Because this is an Old Farmer’s Almanac publication and we love to share our passion for plants and gardening, we have included flower lore, flower gardening quotes, and anecdotal tales from gardeners. We welcome stories about your flowers, too—your beauties, your deadheads, your floricultural unforgettables. Share them—and ask questions about other plants—at Almanac.com or
on our social media.

We believe that with this book, you’ll have a flowering future ahead. Now, let’s head to the garden!

PRICE DOUBLED IN 2 WEEKS
Size: 18 Count (Pack of 1), Size: 18 Count (Pack of 1)
I rescue standard poodles mostly. I also train service dogs. My pack of "poodles" has all sizes and ages. This is not for profit , it is to save lives. Until 2 weeks ago -date now is: 08/17/2022- the price of these were around 20.00. My dogs all loved them. I have a buffet table with lots of storage I use to store the treats and it has room on top for all the treat jars. In the afternoon or evening, they'd get a hard, chewy treat like ears. Standard poodles love to chew . They could finish off one of the ears in minutes. These treats are quiet large and thin. They do smell but they are natural foods. NO WAY can I afford over 40.00 for 18 ears. Did pigs go exttict? Did they quit growing ears? How could They raise the price to cost double the amount? I looked at other ears on Amazon & the other brand i get which starts with a p- has not gone up. Paws- clipping. They have some Bizarre names so guess I'll just double my order for them. I have way too many dogs to give treats to. I want to be fair to all of them. They are my kids & will get the best I can offer. I did wait a few weeks before writting this. I also dropped my Sub & Save with this.

Finally a Toy My Pitbull Hasn’t Destroyed in 5 Minutes
Color: Blue+Red, Color: Blue+Red
I have a 65 lb pitbull who destroys most toys almost immediately, so I’m always skeptical when products claim to be “indestructible.” Most toys last maybe a few minutes in my house before pieces are everywhere. These have actually held up surprisingly well. The material feels durable and thick enough to handle really aggressive chewing, and so far my dog hasn’t been able to destroy them like he does with most other balls and squeaky toys. That alone makes these worth it to me. I also really like the size. They’re large enough that I don’t have to constantly worry about him accidentally swallowing them or choking while playing, which is a huge plus for bigger dogs. The squeaker inside also keeps him interested longer since he usually gets bored quickly with toys that don’t make noise or bounce around well. If you have a strong chewer or larger dog and you’re tired of replacing destroyed toys constantly, these are definitely worth trying.
