Tangy - Berry - Currants

Scattered around Spain’s Tarragona province, centred around Conca de Barberà, are the 15 plots of Costa D’Or Terroirs Mediterrani (Costador), headed up by winemaker Joan Franquet. Joan farms all his vines organically, the only intervention in vineyard is the use of pheromones to repel pests, a little copper and sulphur if and when needed and sometimes the use of sodium bicarbonate to prevent powdery mildew.

This comes from very old bush vines at between 550 and 650m above sea level, from the vineyards of Comadellops where wolves an foxes roam. After one week of gentle soaking, just the free run juice is bled off and then aged in amphora for 6 months before bottling. Red berries and currants with a crisp tang. Complex, fresh mineral goodness balances the red fruit, resulting in an incredibly smashable light red. Chill to serve, then let it warm up.
