Ethiopia Guji Coffee | Benti Neka Washed Light Roast

This Ethiopia coffee comes from the Benti Neka washing station in West Guji and is notable for being certified organic—a rarity in Ethiopia, where many farmers grow organically without formal certification. Coffee cherries are sourced from small farms at elevations of 1,900–2,200 meters, then pulped, fermented for 36–48 hours, and dried for about a week before conditioning and milling.

The washed process brings out the coffee’s sense of place, resulting in a clean, bright cup. We get notes of honey, lemon and lime, and pear, with a light, tea-like body. Benti Neka emphasizes full traceability, using a voucher system to track each lot from farmer to drying beds.

Coffee has deep cultural roots in the Guji region, where the Oromo people have honored it for centuries. Many farmers still grow indigenous varieties using traditional methods, often intercropping coffee with food crops like maize and beans to support their families.
