The implementation of the "Northwest Wind" level procurement also means that the research and development of the Ka-52K is on track. The Russian Air Force and the Russian Navy quickly jointly developed the technical and tactical specifications for the Ka-52K carrier based aircraft, with the Kamov internal code name "Product 820".
The Ka-52K will feature a redesigned rotor mast that allows for manual folding of rotor blades. In addition, the aircraft will have a brand new radar, pilot life support system, air conditioning system, emergency flotation system, and new navigation equipment required for landing. The aircraft body will also undergo corrosion resistance treatment, and the weapon short wings can be folded to reduce the footprint when parked. The Ka-52K will also introduce a newly designed centralized refueling system and a KSU rescue system for maritime search and rescue missions.
With the agreement reached by Russia, France, and Egypt in September 2015 to purchase two former Russian "Northwest Wind" helicopters from Egypt, the Ka-52K project also saw a glimmer of hope. In May 2017, the "White Spot Shark" defeated Airbus Helicopters' "Tiger" armed helicopter in the Egyptian shipborne direct military tender and won an undisclosed order (Jane's speculated it may be 32). The aircraft is expected to be delivered by the end of 2019 or early 2020. This batch of Ka-52K will be able to form a unified logistics maintenance with the 46 Ka-52 "Nile Crocodile" shore based models purchased by Egypt in 2015.
