About this piece: 

Giovanni Battista's 'The Virgin in Prayer' has always been one of my favorite Renaissance art pieces. The peaceful tranquility it exudes is the complete antithesis of the crazy, hurly burly world I find myself living in today. Most youth don't visit art galleries anymore so if an old master was to showcase their work in this modern era it would most probably been seen on a digital screen. So taking my inspiration from digital pixels, I recreated ' The Virgin in Prayer' in a pixel-like block technique. 

About the Artist: 

Mia Edgar is a grade 10 student from Curro Hillcrest. Considering that she is only sixteen years old, her art career has been brief but none the less she has achieved a respectable number of accolades:
•2019- First in grade for art
•2020- First in grade for art and I won a kryptonite for the national Curro Create Competition (the highest award)
•2021- Won a kryptonite for Curro create
•2022- Won a kryptonite for Curro create, and had her work displayed in the Culture Kearsney festival
•2023- First in category and a diploma (highest award) in the national Eisteddfod and she won a cash prize for entering the Hillcrest Conservancy River Conservation Competition.
Above all this, she just loves creating art, it brings her much joy!
